The Gardens Memory Care Unit
Constructed in 2006 as a wing of
the secure Blue Valley Care Home, The Gardens was the first memory support unit
in Thayer County and the surrounding area. It was built upon the dream of
lifelong Thayer County resident Ramon Mieth, who realized the need for a
facility of this kind when he found himself driving 140 miles daily to visit
his wife Kathleen in the nearest dementia care unit. Because of Mr. Mieth's
compassionate vision and generous partnership, Blue Valley Lutheran Homes was
able to expand its mission to include specialized Christian care for
Alzheimer's and dementia residents.
As family members and
caregivers of people with dementia, you need to be able to rely on the care
facility to which you entrust your loved one. With our committed staff, you
can. Our mission is to help our residents enjoy the highest quality of life
while also providing a positive and comfortable environment for residents and
families to enjoy visits and social interaction.
In today's world, there is a great
need for specialized dementia care:
·
One
in eight people older than 65 have Alzheimer's, which is the most common type
of dementia.
·
Every
70 seconds, someone in America develops Alzheimer's. By mid-century, someone
will develop the disease every 33 seconds.

Memory issues present unique challenges for the person
affected and their family. At The Gardens of Blue Valley Lutheran Homes, we
understand the importance that human kindness plays in dealing with the
emotions dementia patients experience. We also believe that ensuring the
resident's personal dignity is the cornerstone of providing great care.
